广州地处珠江三角洲的北缘，毗邻香港和澳门，是广东省政治、经济、科技、教育和文化中心，与全
国各地的联系极为密切，素有中国“南大门”之称。近几年来，我国三大枢纽机场之一的白云国际机
场、大学城、广州港、南沙港等一大批事关广州长远发展的重大基础设施和生产力骨干项目相继建成
并投入使用，为广州会展业发展提供了有利条件。
广州是国内仅次于北京和上海的第三大会展城市，
综合经济实力位列全国十大城市前列。2005年，广州市成立了会展业管理领导小组和广州市会展业行
业协会，健全了全市会展业管理协调机构和行业自律组织。制定颁发了《关于加强广州市会展业管理
的意见》，为广州会展业发展提供了组织和制度保障。
广州博览会是广州市政府主办的中外经贸结合的大型博览会，至今已成功举办了十三届，经贸合作取
得了显著成效。2005年广博会展览总面积54500平方米，展位2500个，有2300多家企业参展，签订
各类经济技术合作项目917项，达成贸易及合作总额1330.93亿元，进一步扩大了在国内外的影响。
